Clearing Squall

16″ x 32″ Original Oil On Canvas.  This painting reveals my love for the beauty in the clouds through a clearing squall at sunset over  Kahakuloa, Maui.  I think it is quite fortuitous that I started this painting long before I would eventually celebrate my very special marriage ceremony celebration there on 10-10-10.   With just a few hues of color this painting weaves fantasy with reality and brings you to a dramatic place where heaven meets earth and pours its blessings out on all of mankind.

Lahaina Harbor Sunset

11.5″ x 15.5″ Original Oil On Canvas.  Lahaina Harbor Sunset –  Lahaina is such a historic area and important harbor since ancient times.  I love going to the Lahaina Harbor to take the boat over to Lanaʻi for the day.  One trip in particular was unforgettable and as we came back to the Lahaina Harbor at sunset, the clouds lit up on the ocean reflections bringing me an image I could not resist painting with my own feelings of the day.  This painting features the tranquil waters at a Lahaina Harbor Sunset.

Maui Sugar Stack

Maui is a sweet spot to be – literally!  Sugar cane on Maui can be seen growing in over 35,000 acres on the island, keeping the sunny central isthmus lush and green.  At the base of this agricultural crop is the historic sugar stack of Puʻunēnē, home to Hawaiʻiʻs largest working sugar factory.  This sugar stack is always working, showing off its rustic charm and rich history with all of Maui.

Omaʻopio Glow

16″ x 20″ Original Oil On Canvas (SOLD).  I love watching clouds that turn orange at sunset!  I was visiting  my dad at his farm in Omaʻopio as as the evening glow fell softly on the fields, the clouds turned bright orange as the sound of birds prepared with fervor for their evening roosting spot.

Text Print: Children Learn What They Live

I first saw this poem hanging in the waiting room of my local car mechanic shop.  I really liked it so I did some research and found out it was written by Dorothy Law Nolte.  “Children Learn What They Live,” originally written to fill Mrs. Nolte’s weekly family advice column in the now-defunct Torrance Herald  in 1954, has been reprinted in 30 languages and probably appeared more than a few times in “Dear Abby.”  “I simply wrote it and put it out there, where it has apparently moved through the world on its own momentum,” Mrs. Nolte told the Los Angeles Times earlier this year.

Text Print: Hawaiian Marriage Blessing

I was inspired to write this Hawaiian Marriage Blessing when Duke and I first got engaged over 10 years ago.  FIrst, I wrote it in Hawaiian language, finding the kaona or hidden inner meanings in the thinking of Hawaiian language.  Then I did the English translation.  I have had many people and ministers contact me to read this at wedding ceremonies and I have no problem with that.  I am blessed to have the words here that others want to share at such special life moments.  I hope you like it and find someone who would love it too!
